Learning to Lead and Serve

Students explore their leadership potential through the Volunteer Impact Academy.

March 17, 2021

Applicants to the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, can apply to join the new Volunteer Impact Academy, a leadership development and service program.

The academy will provide an immersive four-year leadership and service cohort experience to students who embody what it means to be a Volunteer.

“The academy offers a unique opportunity for students to explore and expand their leadership potential while also learning how their unique strengths and skills can best serve the community,” says Mandie Beeler, director of UT’s Jones Center for Leadership and Service.

The academy will include a $2,000 scholarship, renewable for four years for students who remain in good academic standing and meet all program requirements. The first group will begin in fall 2021 and is already filled. Prospective students for later years can apply for the Volunteer Impact Academy after completing their application for admission.

Each year of the program is focused on a different theme, such as what it means to be a Vol, making an impact on campus, community engagement, and using connections and experiences to make a global impact and leave a lasting legacy at UT.

“The intentionality of this program will truly allow participants to leave a lasting legacy on campus and throughout the communities they will serve,” explains Beeler.
